How Do I Pay for a Lost or Damaged Book?

Answer

The MI Library cannot accept monetary compensation for lost or damaged Items.  Patrons are required to replace the missing or damaged material with a new copy of the same edition or publisher as the lost item.

Replacement books must be in new, fine or very good condition, as defined below.

  • New. A brand-new item is less than one year old, and its pages are crisp.
  • Fine. A fine item is apparently untouched, i.e., in perfect condition.  Its pages are intact and pristine, and there are absolutely no signs of wear on the item.

>The patron will not be able to checkout additional materials or clear the MI Library until the lost and/or damaged item is replaced or on order to be replaced.

>To replace the items, patrons may either:

  • Bring the replacement copy to the MI Library with this form.
  • Have the replacement copy mailed from an online retailer to the MI Library and bring the receipt to the MI Library with this form.  Receipt must include the patron’s name, the item being replaced, and that it is being shipped to the following address:
